Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between whey isolate and whey concentrate?

Isolate is filtered further to remove more fat, carbs, and lactose, resulting in a higher protein percentage per scoop (34 g here vs. our concentrate) and less digestive discomfort for lactose-sensitive users. Concentrate retains more of the natural milk fats and flavor compounds.

Is this whey isolate good for lactose intolerance?

Because isolate removes most of the lactose during processing, it's easier to digest than concentrate for many people with mild lactose sensitivity. It is not lactose-free and is not suitable for a milk allergy.

How much protein and leucine are in one scoop?

34 g of protein and 5,112 mg of leucine per serving, above the ~2.5–3g threshold research associates with maximally stimulating muscle protein synthesis.

What does grass-fed mean for whey protein, and does it matter?

Grass-fed, pasture-raised cows produce milk with a different fat and nutrient profile than grain-fed dairy. Our whey is sourced from 100% pasture-raised New Zealand cows, free from added growth hormones (rBGH) and antibiotics.

What does it taste like?

Because no artificial sweeteners or flavour-masking agents are used, Progressive Grass Fed Whey Isolate has a cleaner, less sweet taste profile than heavily flavoured commodity proteins, most noticeably in the Unflavoured version, which reflects the natural taste of whey protein itself. Vanilla and Chocolate are lightly flavoured with natural flavouring to round out the taste without relying on artificial sweeteners.

I liked it so much, I had to tell you about it!

"Picked this up on a whim, it was on sale at Loblaws. I have been mixing it with room temperature water, carrying it with me; then adding it as a creamer to my teas and coffees. As long as you let things cool for 5 min or so. Seems to work without curdling!. One scoop added little by little to a day of drinks really makes getting more protein easy and enjoyable! No tummy upset!"

Q&A

You mention your lead levels are within the Health Canada specifications? To clarify, those specifications are 10 micrograms per day? Is that the range your product is within?
Thank you for your interest in Progressive. Every product Jamieson sells across our family of brands, including Progressive protein powders, complies with the strict safety and quality standards enforced by Health Canada and/or the CFIA. In addition to complying with Health Canada and CFIA regulations, Jamieson conducts quality testing on every lot at every stage of production, from raw materials through to finished packaged goods as part of our 360 Quality Promise. Heavy metals are a part of this standard testing, with raw materials and finished products undergoing testing for the presence of lead, cadmium, arsenic and mercury. This industry-leading quality assurance program ensures all products released for sale meet internationally recognized standards and guarantees their safety, quality and potency.
I love this product but I’m concerned with recent reports of lead levels in protein powder. How do you test for lead levels? Do you use 3rd party testing?
Yes! Purity of product is very important in the production of every single product we develop and manufacture for our valued customers. We are a proudly Canadian company and our manufacturing facility is Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) site licensed by Health Canada. Progressive products contains ingredients tested according to the internationally recognized United States Pharmacopeial (USP) standards. Hi just want to know Any pork product in it And is it halal
Hi Alex, thanks for your interest! The New Zealand Whey Protein used in Progressive Grass Fed Whey Isolate is both halal and kosher. This product contains no ingredients sourced from pork.
I mixed with milk and hot coffee and the texture changed to a hard rubber like substance - what is wrong
Progressive Grass Fed Whey Isolate is formulated to be mixed with 250 ml of cold or room temperature liquid per one scoop of powder. To achieve the consistency you prefer, we recommend increasing the liquid and using a shaker cup with blender ball.
